This is an O-ring that is necessary when rebuilding the VVTI actuator in your 3UZFE or 1UZFE VVTI engine. The O-ring sits between the outer VVTI Cam gear flange and inside of the actuator spring body. Over time 10+ years of use, the O-ring will become hard as a rock and will crack and breakdown. This will cause the cam seals to start leaking as well. It is necessary to change it out when inspecting or rebuilding the VVTI actuator on any of the Lexus and Toyota V8's 1UZFE 3UZFE engines.
